Katie sent us a lovely enquiry back in February 2020 about her 2021 wedding date, but little did we know the world would turn upside down in a matter of weeks, and she and Simon would have to postpone their wedding day to January 2022.
They chose Wyresdale Park as their Scorton wedding venue and an acoustic wedding band was the first thing on their list to find and having come across our music and enjoying our audio and videos, they knew we were the ones to spend the day providing live acoustic music for their guests.
When the pandemic hit we started to release albums of our music, created in our home studios. Katie and simon were the first people to support us by buying every album we have released so far – 14 in total! – as well as requesting a two custom recordings: The first was ‘Depth Over Distance‘ by Ben Howard, which would have been their chosen music to walk down the aisle to… and a second recording of ‘From Here To The Moon And Back’ which, after a couple of years’ worth of raging pandemic, would eventually be their live first dance. Their support and generosity at that difficult time really helped us stay afloat during our 18 month hiatus, and we couldn’t have been more grateful for the kindness they have shown us.
As their acoustic duo and live looping band for the day we performed live music during the ceremony, drinks reception and evening reception. If you have had the chance to visit Wyresdale park before you will know that the entire grounds are so picturesque, the ceremony room being no exception. Friend of the family and Katie’s former teacher Barbara (or Babs as we affectionately refer to her) decorated the ceremony room with beautiful vines and candles, and was so sweet and welcoming that she officially qualified for the title of Our Favourite Person Of The Day (sorry Katie!) – this absolute power-pack of a woman made sure everything looked, and ran, smoothly all day long. We can barely remember a dentist’s appointment.
Before everyone arrived, as a huge thank you for all of the support they had given us, we filmed snippets of their ceremony songs, see the video below:

Katie was excited to finally get to hear us perform her aisle song ‘Depth Over Distance’ – so much so she made Simon wait for almost the whole song before she walked down the aisle… Poor Simon! Under normal circumstances, providing live music as the bride walks down the aisle is a terrifying exercise in quickly judging the velocity of said bride, dividing that by the remaining distance to the altar, and then subtracting what remains of the specific chorus you happen to be singing at that moment… looking for a way out of the song that will feel natural without leaving the bride, groom and assembled guests thinking ‘Jeez, these wedding singers are a bit up themselves, innit?’
For the music during the signing of the register, they requested our version of ‘Emmylou’ by ‘first aid kit’; a song we heard back in 2016 and fell in love with and which still sits comfortably in our acoustic set list to this day! Finally we serenaded them with our acoustic cover of ‘Grow Old With Me’ by Tom Odell whilst they both beamed back down the aisle as husband and wife.
Whilst we were tucking In to our lovely 3-course meal we crossed paths with stark films weddings, who we’d previously met back in 2015 at Hazelwood castle in Leeds! It was so lovely to catch up with them and talk shop about cameras and videography. Well, it was for us, at least 🤣 Their work is amazing – check them out here: starkfilms
