We were delighted to recently perform as a Woolas Barn wedding band in York, a few months ago. It’s a grand venue set in enormous grounds, but is owned and run by some of the warmest, most friendly staff we could hope for. Nothing is too much trouble for these guys and girls, and the family-run nature of the venue shines through in all aspects.
We performed all day for Sidonie and Josh, starting with a gentle set that weaved in and around the wedding ceremony itself: Acoustic wedding music is great for this, since it’s more personal and immediate than a playlist or cd, and less intrusive than a quartet or small band. Beth and Johnny chose ‘Better hall of me’ by Tom Walker as the song to which Sidonie would walk down the aisle, and during the signing of the register, Johnny, being a huge Nick Drake fan, really wanted to hear our acoustic rendition of ‘Northern Sky’. This is an incredible song and Johnny enjoyed it so much that he asked us to play it again later that evening!!
As the bride and groom walked back down the aisle as man and wife, we performed another favourite: ‘Here Comes The Sun’ by The Beatles. This is the second gig in a row where a couple have requested this number… perhaps there’s something about the sudden onset of cold weather in the UK that is making people pine for the glorious couple of summers we’ve just experienced 🙂
We’d like to extend a particular thanks to James the venue’s owner who really made us feel welcome and carried himself and his staff with the kind of relaxed, confident attitude that is an absolute credit to wedding venues in general. We wish there were more like you, James!
